Soccer News Erlanger International soccer team of Raleigh is in the semi- finals of the State Playoffs Andy Bayard, freshman of N. C. State and son of Dr. and Mrs. W. L. Bayard of Tryon is a member of the team. In the first round they beat New Bern 4-0 and Andy made a goal and had an assist. In the quarter-finals they defeated a South American team based at Fort Bragg 3 to 1 and Andy had two assists Both games were played on the Air Force Base of Seymour Johnson at Goldsboro They will play their semi-final game Saturday in Fayettesville Erlanger International's record is presently 15-0-1. DAR Winner District One of the Daughters of the American Revolution have announced the Winners in the DAR Good Citizen Awards. The first place winner was Scott Patrick Mebane of Asheville High School, son of Mr and Mrs William Mebane He is the grandson of Mrs W. M. Mebane of Hogback Mtn. Rd.. On Thanksgiving Day at 3:30 p m. they answered a call to the home of Mason Larwood in Mountain Shadows on Skyuka Road. The house had minor fire and smoke damage. Mr Larwood discovered the fire, called the fire department and then used a fire extinguisher to keep the fire from spreading before the firemen arrived. On Sunday. Nov. 23rd the Columbus Fire Department was called to the Jim Connor home on Houston Road The house had two rooms with fire damage and extensive smoke damage. The alarm was turned in at 6:20 p.m. A New Arrival Mr and Mrs. Wade (Skip) Corn are parents of a daughter. Meagan Charis, born at Spartanburg General Hospital on November 26. Mrs. Corn is the former Pat Dempsey. Paternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs. Wade Corn, Sr. and the maternal grandparents are Mr and MR. James R.
